Municipalities in Pennsylvania’s 55th Legislative District are set to receive nearly $3 million in grants, according to an announcement from Rep. Jill Cooper (R-Westmoreland). The funding was approved through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency under the Department of Community and Economic Development that supports economic growth initiatives.

“Local governments go above and beyond to keep their budgets in check, yet still provide the services valued by residents and businesses,” Cooper said. “I can think of no better use for these grants, and I was thrilled to work with Sens. Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) and Joe Pittman (R-Armstrong/Indiana/Jefferson/Westmoreland) in seeing these projects get the boosts needed to get them across the finish line.”

One notable project includes a $150,000 grant for Salem Township’s Seanor Park, which will help bring a baseball field closer to completion. This funding comes from the CFA’s Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program, which is supported by the Marcellus Legacy Fund established by Act 13 of 2012.

Additional grants were awarded through Local Share Account (LSA) programs that use gaming funds generated at Pennsylvania casinos to support local economic development, job training, community improvement, and public interest projects.

The following LSA disbursements were made within the district:
– Delmont Borough will receive $708,000 for improvements at Cramer Lift Station Sewer Shed and a sanitary sewer replacement on Tollgate Lane.
– Derry Township Municipal Authority is allocated $77,050 for upgrades at New Alexandria Treatment Plant.
– Economic Growth Connection of Westmoreland will get $275,238 for a new truck for the Westmoreland County Food Bank.
– Export Borough is set to receive $330,466 for relocating a medical helicopter pad and purchasing a new public works truck.
– Loyalhanna Township has been awarded $47,044 for a new public works truck.
– City of New Kensington receives $169,345 for a police vehicle as well as an excavator and trailer.
– Salem Township gets another $350,000 to extend public water lines.
– Washington Township is granted $823,625 for expanding its volunteer fire company facilities and storm sewer work in Paulton.

The CFA distributes funding through several programs dedicated to supporting economic growth throughout Pennsylvania.
