As the Penn-Franklin News closes after 78 years, the community reflects on its significant impact. The local newspaper chronicled milestones such as proms, graduations, and school plays, offering a platform where stories mattered and lives were celebrated. Representative Jill Cooper expressed gratitude to those who contributed to the paper’s legacy.
In her column, Cooper invited readers to join her email list for updates on events in Harrisburg and local happenings. She emphasized the connection fostered by the newspaper through letters to editors and shared experiences within the community.
Cooper also reintroduced her “No Budget, No Pay” proposal as the legal deadline for passing next year’s budget approached. The proposal suggests suspending compensation for key government officials if budget deadlines are missed. This aims to encourage timely discussions and decisions regarding Pennsylvania’s fiscal planning.
Additionally, Cooper announced a Community Health, Wellness, and Career Fair scheduled for July 18 at Knead Community Café in New Kensington. The event offers residents of the 55th District an opportunity to connect with organizations serving their neighborhoods.
