More than $1.4 million in state funding has been allocated to several infrastructure projects across Westmoreland County, according to an announcement from Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-Westmoreland). The grants were approved through the Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program and the Multimodal Transportation Fund.

“These projects may not always be visible, but they are essential to keeping our communities safe and functioning every day,” said Rossi. “This funding helps local governments address aging infrastructure, reduce flooding, improve public safety and plan responsibly for future growth while easing the financial burden on local taxpayers.”

The City of Latrobe will receive $40,000 for a stormwater conveyance project along Joanne Drive aimed at reducing flooding in the Northview neighborhood. An additional $100,000 is allocated for constructing an underground stormwater bio filtration pond near Gertrude and Jefferson streets to further address flooding issues and enhance water quality.

Derry Township Supervisors have been awarded $98,774 to stabilize the streambank along Miller Run near Guerrier Road, which is expected to help prevent erosion and protect nearby roadways.

Unity Township Municipal Authority will receive two grants: $100,000 for upgrades at the Pleasant Unity Water Pollution Control Plant intended to improve efficiency and support future sewer connections; and $429,424 for replacing aging water lines along Theater Street to increase service reliability and fire protection.

Unity Township Supervisors will use $60,000 toward construction and engineering costs for improvements along West Way and Horseshoe Drive. Another grant of $25,000 will go toward extending public water service to the Farm Event Center with plans for future connections along Greene Street. Additionally, a grant of $315,025 will fund an extension of public sewer service to the Farm Event Center.

St. Clair Township has been granted $243,523 to pave approximately 1.5 miles of Shrum Hill Road as part of efforts to improve safety and prevent further deterioration.

The Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program provides grants ranging from $30,000 to $500,000 for municipal water supply systems, sanitary sewers, storm sewers or flood control projects. Funds can be used for construction or repair work on these systems.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund supports economic development by providing grants that can be used for transportation-related enhancements such as street rehabilitation, lighting improvements or pedestrian safety measures. Both programs are administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority in support of infrastructure development throughout Pennsylvania.
