Franklin Regional School District issued the following announcement.
After careful consideration, the make-up Commencement Ceremony scheduled for June 26, 2020, has been postponed until July 24, 2020. In accordance with the wishes expressed by our seniors, the Franklin Regional School District remains committed to holding a traditional ceremony in Panther Stadium for our graduating seniors and their families.
Though we strongly believe that our current plans could allow the District to appropriately social distance for this outdoor event and take the necessary health and safety precautions to protect those in attendance, this decision to postpone is a result of the current legal restrictions detailed in Governor Wolf’s process to Reopen Pennsylvania Plan. The Green Phase of this plan prohibits gatherings of more than 250 people.
After consultation with the District’s solicitor, violating these restrictions could result in a loss of insurance policy coverage for this event and serious legal consequences for our District and state-certified administrators.
Like most of you, the Board of School Directors and District staff are very disappointed and frustrated about being forced to further postpone this community celebration. The District’s administration and high school staff will continue our work to provide our graduates with an appropriate commencement ceremony befitting of the Class of 2020.
