A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Westmoreland County Sheriff's Office in Pennsylvania regarding arrest records on October 22, 2024.
The request, sent by us at the Westmoreland Review, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, seeks all arrest records from January 1, 2024, to the present day. The requested data points include details such as the arrestee's name, sex, race, age, date of birth, citizenship status, booking ID, date of arrest and booking photo. Additional information about the arresting officer(s), type of crime committed, location of crime and date of crime is also requested.
We believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities as journalists. This includes holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information to the community we serve, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
