The Westmoreland Museum of American Art will host Westmoreland County's America250PA commemorative bell, a project set to honor the county's past and celebrate its future. The bell is scheduled for unveiling in the summer of 2025 at the museum, where it will remain on display through 2026 as part of the Bells Across Pennsylvania initiative.
Silvia Filippini-Fantoni, The Richard M. Scaife Director/CEO, expressed her enthusiasm: “I am delighted that the Museum will be the home for our county’s commemorative bell. This project is a unique opportunity to showcase the talent of a local artist while also celebrating our region."
Dawn Lamuth, Director of Culture and Community Connection at GO Laurel Highlands, highlighted the significance of this initiative: “Westmoreland County has a rich history of resolve, resilience, and innovation, and the Bell will showcase what makes our region special.”
Residents are invited to contribute ideas for the bell's design by suggesting local landmarks, people, and wildlife via an online form available on DiscoverWestmoreland.com.
Mandy Sirochuck, a stained glass and mosaic artist known for blending traditional and contemporary techniques, will create the bell. She co-owns Main Exhibit Gallery & Art Center in Ligonier with her husband Paul.
America250PA is Pennsylvania's official program marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. The Bells Across Pennsylvania project aims to unite communities across the state through art and history.
