State Representative Eric Davanzo of Westmoreland has issued a statement regarding the ongoing efforts by U.S. Senator Bob Casey and other officials to count ballots deemed illegal in the 2024 Senate election. Rep. Davanzo expressed concern over these actions, emphasizing that they contradict established legal precedents.
Davanzo criticized Sen. Casey for not conceding the race and accused him of influencing Democratic County commissioners to ignore state Supreme Court rulings. "Sen. Bob Casey has served this Commonwealth for decades, often portraying himself as an adamant supporter of the rule of law," said Davanzo. He added that Casey's recent actions have been contrary to his previous stance on legal matters.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court had reaffirmed a state law requiring mail-in ballots to be dated correctly and cast by registered voters only. According to Davanzo, some Democrats are allowing fraudulent votes to be counted, which he described as "shameful" and "disingenuous."
He also highlighted concerns about the financial implications of a recount due to what he termed "election denialism" from Sen. Casey, stating it would cost taxpayers significantly.
Davanzo called on Governor Josh Shapiro to intervene, urging him to ensure compliance with existing laws and court precedents: “Today, I am urging Gov. Josh Shapiro and his administration to intervene in the clear and present danger to our elections." He stressed that it is Shapiro's responsibility as governor to protect election integrity in Pennsylvania.
