Rep. Leslie Rossi has announced that nearly $345,000 in impact fees paid by Marcellus Shale drilling companies will benefit residents of the 59th Legislative District and Westmoreland County. In addition to this municipal funding, Westmoreland County is set to receive more than $1 million from these impact fees.

“These funds will directly support critical projects and services in our local communities, from infrastructure improvements to environmental initiatives,” said Rossi. “It’s good to see our residents benefit from the natural resources developed in our region.”

The state Public Utility Commission (PUC) released the following revenue amounts for Westmoreland County and eligible municipalities within the 59th District:

– Boliver Borough: $831
– City of Latrobe: $12,311
– Cook Township: $6,547
– Derry Borough: $3,974
– Derry Township: $159,771
– Donegal Borough: $91
– Donegal Township: $9,210
– Fairfield Township: $30,679
– Laurel Mountain Borough: $364
– Ligonier Borough: $2,539
– Ligonier Township: $23,809
– Mount Pleasant Township: $20,453
– New Florence Borough: $1,492
– Seward Borough: $860
– St. Clair Township: $8,447
– Unity Township: $37,558

Impact fees are collected from drilling companies with 60% returned to counties and municipalities affected by drilling activities. The remaining funds are allocated into a Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund which supports various state-level projects including emergency response planning and environmental initiatives.

Municipalities can expect checks to be distributed in early July.
