HARRISBURG - The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has recently approved funds for various local stormwater and sewer projects, according to House Republican Caucus Chairman Rep. George Dunbar. Speaking about the importance of the grants, Dunbar stated, "Local government entities have a number of projects that are sometimes held up because the funding just isn't there. This is precisely why this grant system was developed, to bring projects like these from the planning phase to completion."

One of the projects receiving funding is the extension of the Brush Creek sewage line in the Village of Boquet, sought by the Penn Township Sewage Authority. This project has been granted $400,000. In Penn Township, Rep. Dunbar collaborated with Sen. Kim Ward to secure $1.38 million for the repair and improvement of the stormwater system at Penntowne Estates. Additionally, Dunbar, Ward, and Rep. Eric Davanzo worked together to allocate $800,000 to a pump station improvement project in Hartford Heights, North Huntingdon Township, sought by the North Huntingdon Township Municipal Authority.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority, established in 2004, is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development. It distributes funding through several programs dedicated to economic growth. The grants awarded for these projects are funded through Pennsylvania's H20 PA and Small Water and Sewer programs, which received over $300 million in federal funds in 2022 through Act 54.

"Local authorities work hard to keep rates affordable while still completing repair and expansion projects," said Dunbar. "State investments like these, ultimately, are a benefit to everyone in the area because a working infrastructure better positions our region for economic development."

The funding provided by the CFA will not only support the completion of these infrastructure projects but will also contribute to the overall economic development of the region. With a functioning and efficient infrastructure, the local area will be better positioned for growth and prosperity.
