HARRISBURG - Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Westmoreland) has announced that over $2.71 million in grant funding has been awarded to local infrastructure projects in the region. Nelson expressed his pride in working with local governments and authorities to secure critical infrastructure improvements that will ensure quality services at a reasonable rate.

Nelson emphasized the collaborative effort involved in securing these funds, stating, "It is a team effort, and I am glad to work with the Senate and other House members to bring these funds home."

The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County had sought funding for two projects. The first is a belt filter press project at the New Stanton Wastewater Treatment Plant, while the second is a sanitary lining project for sewage lines in Hempfield Township. Combined, these projects received over $1.2 million from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).

Hempfield Township was also awarded funding for two stormwater projects, totaling over $1.2 million. The first project involves improvements to a system on Waterbury Drive and Newport Drive in the West Point neighborhood. The second project is the construction of a stormwater retention pond on Walden Court in the West Hempfield area.

Youngwood Borough received a grant of nearly $300,000 for a stormwater upgrade project on Depot Street.

The funding for these projects comes from Pennsylvania's H20 PA and Small Water and Sewer programs. In 2022, the General Assembly directed over $300 million in federal funds to these programs through Act 54 of 2022.

Nelson praised the hard work of local governments in delivering for residents and expressed his gratitude in working with Senator Kim Ward to support their efforts. He highlighted the significance of these investments, stating, "Key investments like this are precisely why the grant program exists. It's a big win."

The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), established in 2004, is an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development. It distributes funding through various programs dedicated to economic growth.

With these grant awards, the region can look forward to improved infrastructure that will benefit residents and enhance the overall quality of life. The collaboration between local governments, authorities, and lawmakers highlights the commitment to driving economic growth and ensuring the well-being of the community.
