The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has awarded funds to two recreation projects in the 58th Legislative District, according to Rep. Eric Davanzo (R-Westmoreland). The grants were awarded through the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program, and will help expand recreation opportunities in the area.

Davanzo emphasized the importance of recreation in communities, stating, "Recreation is a big quality-of-life aspect for any community, and our local officials work hard to make certain that local facilities are well-maintained, safe, and usable."

One of the awardees is the DiVirgilio Sports Complex in Rostraver Township, which will receive $190,000 for the installation of five pickleball courts. The project also includes lighting and the creation of additional parking spaces. Davanzo highlighted the growing popularity of pickleball, stating, "You don't have to look hard to see that pickleball is growing in popularity because it has appeal to such a wide range of age groups and abilities."

In North Huntingdon Township, local officials are seeking to build pickleball courts at Oak Hollow Park. This project, supported by both Davanzo and Rep. George Dunbar (R-Westmoreland), has been awarded $100,000. Both representatives represent North Huntingdon Township. Sen. Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) also provided support for both projects. Ward emphasized the positive impact of the natural gas industry in funding local projects, stating, "This is a perfect example of how natural gas drilling has helped fund local projects in our communities, making us stronger while also advancing our state's economy to put our nation on a path to energy independence."

The grants for these projects are funded by the Marcellus Legacy Fund, which was established by Act 13 of 2012. The CFA, an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development, oversees the allocation of funds for projects such as the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program. This program aims to support the development and repair of greenways, recreational trails, open spaces, parks, and beautification projects.

Overall, these grants will play a crucial role in expanding recreation opportunities in the 58th Legislative District. Davanzo expressed his satisfaction with the approved grants, stating, "Both projects will be a great addition to the area, and I was happy to work with Rep. Dunbar and Sen. Ward to get the grants approved." The focus on pickleball, a sport that appeals to a wide range of individuals, reflects the commitment to providing inclusive recreational opportunities in the region.
