HARRISBURG – Rep. Leslie Rossi (R-Westmoreland) has announced that the Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technical Center will receive $84,945 in funding through the Career and Technical Education Equipment Grants Program. This funding will be used to expand and improve access to first-class equipment and educational advantages for the students.
“I am pleased to have advocated for this local funding,” said Rossi. “It’s a priority to offer multiple avenues for students to demonstrate educational achievement, especially students enrolled in career and technical education. It is imperative we train our students with the needs of our economy, and right now that need includes more individuals with skills in trades.”
The Career and Technical Education Equipment Grants Program awarded over $4 million in competitive grants to 55 career and technical centers (CTCs) and school districts in Pennsylvania. These centers provide a combination of classes and hands-on learning programs approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The goal is to equip students with industry credentials and certifications that will prepare them for high-demand local jobs.
Representative Rossi's efforts to secure this funding for Westmoreland County will benefit the students of the Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technical Center, allowing them to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the workforce. This investment in education aligns with the state's objective of meeting the workforce needs of the economy.
With the grant funding, the Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technical Center will be able to enhance their educational resources and ensure that students have access to state-of-the-art equipment. This will enable them to develop the practical skills required in various trades, setting them on a path towards a successful career.
The importance of career and technical education cannot be overstated, as it plays a vital role in bridging the skills gap and addressing the needs of the economy. By providing students with the opportunity to gain industry-specific knowledge and experience, these programs enable them to graduate with a competitive advantage in the job market.
Representative Rossi's commitment to supporting career and technical education is commendable. The funding she has secured for Westmoreland County will not only benefit the students directly but also contribute to the overall economic growth and development of the region.
It is through investments like these that Pennsylvania can continue to nurture a skilled workforce and ensure that students are prepared to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving job market.
