State Rep. Jill Cooper and Senate President Pro Tem Kim Ward from Westmoreland County recently announced significant funding for local projects aimed at enhancing public works efforts and supporting economic development. The grants, totaling more than $350,000, were secured through the Commonwealth Finance Authority (CFA) and Local Municipal Relief Funds.

In a statement, Representative Jill Cooper highlighted the importance of the grants by stating, "Our local officials balance keeping taxes as low as possible with providing services and amenities, and grants like these go a long way in accomplishing both." The funding is intended to support local governments in executing public works projects and purchasing necessary equipment to enhance community services.

Senate President Pro Tem Kim Ward emphasized the connection between strong communities and robust economies, stating, "Strong communities help build strong economies." The grants allocated through the funding announcement are expected to advance essential local projects that contribute to creating a safe and vibrant living environment for residents.

Among the projects receiving funding is Murrysville, which was awarded over $300,000 through the Local Municipal Relief Funds. This allocation includes $200,000 designated for bridge repairs on the Old William Penn Highway bridge, as well as $100,000 to aid in the purchase of a vehicle and equipment for the police department. These investments are anticipated to significantly improve infrastructure and public safety measures within the community.

Additionally, three projects in the region were awarded grants from the Local Share Account, totaling more than $87,000. These projects include the construction of a restroom facility at Duff Park in Murrysville, the replacement of a non-functional generator in Delmont Borough, and an upgrade to sewage pumps at the Cloverleaf Pump Station in Salem Township. These grants aim to support economic development, job training, community improvement, and public interest projects through gaming funds.

The grants represent a collaborative effort to bolster public works initiatives, promote economic growth, and enhance the overall quality of life in Westmoreland County. The Commonwealth Finance Authority, as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development, plays a crucial role in distributing funding to support various programs dedicated to economic development and community enhancement.
