HARRISBURG – Local Share Account grants to help local entities complete public works projects and aid local police were distributed by the Commonwealth Finance Authority, announced Rep. Eric Nelson (R-Westmoreland).
Nelson expressed his satisfaction with the grants, stating, "Local governments work hard at providing quality services to their residents, while at the same time keeping taxes low." He emphasized the importance of reinvesting revenue generated from Live! Casino in Westmoreland for the benefit of everyone.
One of the projects receiving funding is in South Greensburg Borough, where $142,000 will go towards replacing restroom and parking facilities at the recreational park. Nelson highlighted the need for ADA-compliant facilities to ensure accessibility for all visitors.
In the City of Greensburg, $125,000 has been allocated for the purchase of two new police vehicles and six laptop computers for police officers. Nelson commented, "Projects like these help local government and agencies fulfill their public missions in a fiscally, responsible manner."
Acknowledging the collaborative effort behind the grants, Nelson thanked Sen. Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland), saying, "I want to thank Sen. Kim Ward, who was instrumental in making certain these projects were prioritized."
The Local Share Account grants aim to support economic development, job training, community improvement, and public interest projects through gaming funds. Other grant recipients include Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity, Southwest Greensburg Borough, Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corporation, and Youngwood Borough.
The Commonwealth Finance Authority, an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development, oversees the distribution of funding for various programs dedicated to economic growth.
