Two projects in Westmoreland County have been awarded a total of $5 million in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grants. This announcement was made by Representative Jill Cooper and Senator Joe Pittman.
The New Kensington Advanced Manufacturing Park Redevelopment project in New Kensington will receive $3 million. The funds will be used to demolish older structures that are unsuitable for use due to structural and safety concerns. The site will be prepared for the construction of new buildings, and existing structures will be upgraded for manufacturing, technology, and flexible space.
Additionally, TECfusions in Upper Burrell Township has been allocated $2 million for the Keystone Connect Data Center project. This multiphase project aims to construct a hyperscale data center in New Kensington. The facility will feature three buildings powered by an on-site micro-grid that uses dual-fuel, energy-efficient, low-emission technology. Phase I includes the acquisition of equipment such as emergency generators, UPS systems, electric switchgear, transformers, breakers, cabling, and building materials.
"When the Commonwealth invests in new and growing businesses," said Cooper, "not only does it create new positions and expand our workforce, but it lays the groundwork for even more economic development."
Senator Pittman added: "Investing in these projects is about helping our communities have the resources they need to thrive. I’m pleased to have worked together to advocate for this substantial support. The funding awarded today will open new opportunities and expand upon previous initiatives throughout our region to increase economic and community development."
RACP is managed by the Office of the Budget and focuses on regional economic improvement projects with significant impact on employment levels or tax revenues.
