Westmoreland County officials have expressed approval for the recent broadband expansion plan announced by Governor Tom Wolf. The initiative aims to improve internet access across Pennsylvania, particularly in underserved areas.

The delegation, consisting of state representatives and senators from Westmoreland County, highlighted the potential benefits of the plan for local communities. They emphasized that improved internet connectivity could enhance educational opportunities, boost economic development, and provide better access to healthcare services.

State Representative Joe Petrarca stated, "This is a significant step forward in ensuring that all Pennsylvanians have access to reliable high-speed internet." He added that this initiative would help bridge the digital divide in rural and urban areas alike.

Senator Kim Ward echoed these sentiments, noting that increased broadband access is crucial for businesses looking to expand or relocate to Westmoreland County. "With better internet infrastructure," she said, "we can attract more companies and create jobs."

The plan includes funding for new infrastructure projects and partnerships with private sector companies to extend broadband coverage. It also seeks to address affordability issues by providing subsidies for low-income households.

Governor Wolf's administration has prioritized expanding broadband access as part of its broader efforts to modernize Pennsylvania's infrastructure. The initiative aligns with federal goals outlined in recent legislation aimed at improving nationwide connectivity.
