Local Share Account grants have been distributed by the Commonwealth Finance Authority to support public works projects and assist local police, as announced by Rep. Eric Nelson of Westmoreland. The funds are generated from Live! Casino in Westmoreland.
Nelson emphasized the importance of these grants, stating, “Local governments work hard at providing quality services to their residents, while at the same time keeping taxes low.” He added that this funding is a demonstration of how revenue can be reinvested for community benefit.
In South Greensburg Borough, $142,000 has been allocated for replacing restroom and parking facilities at the borough’s recreational park. The current restroom is unusable, and the new facilities will be ADA-compliant.
The City of Greensburg has received $125,000 to purchase two new police vehicles and six laptop computers for police use. Nelson commented on the significance of such projects: “Projects like these help local government and agencies fulfill their public missions in a fiscally responsible manner.”
He also acknowledged Sen. Kim Ward's role in prioritizing these projects.
The Local Share Account grants are intended to support economic development and community improvement through gaming funds. The CFA operates under the Department of Community and Economic Development.
Additional grants include:
- Central Westmoreland Habitat for Humanity: $27,963 for a box truck.
- Southwest Greensburg Borough: $29,346 for landscaping equipment.
- Westmoreland County Industrial Development Corporation: $18,000 for a geothermal system replacement.
- Youngwood Borough: $25,000 for GIS mapping system completion.
