Rep. Eric Nelson of Westmoreland announced that over $2.71 million in grants have been allocated to local infrastructure projects. "This is a big win for our region," Nelson stated, emphasizing the collaboration with local governments and authorities to secure essential infrastructure improvements.
The Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County has received funding for two significant projects: a belt filter press project at the New Stanton Wastewater Treatment Plant and a sanitary lining project for sewage lines in Hempfield Township. These initiatives collectively amount to more than $1.2 million from the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).
Additionally, two stormwater projects in Hempfield Township have been funded, representing an investment exceeding $1.2 million. The projects include system improvements on Waterbury Drive and Newport Drive in the West Point neighborhood and constructing a stormwater retention pond on Walden Court in the West Hempfield area.
Youngwood Borough also secured nearly $300,000 for a stormwater upgrade project on Depot Street.
The CFA, established in 2004 as an independent agency within the Department of Community and Economic Development, distributes funding through various programs aimed at economic growth.
These grants are financed through Pennsylvania's H20 PA and Small Water and Sewer programs. In 2022, more than $300 million in federal funds were directed to these programs by the General Assembly under Act 54 of 2022.
"Our local governments work hard to deliver for residents," Nelson added, acknowledging cooperation with Senator Kim Ward to support these efforts. "Key investments like this are precisely why the grant program exists."
