Rep. Eric Nelson of Westmoreland has announced the allocation of grant funding to several local governments within the 57th Legislative District. These grants will support fire departments, schools, and various infrastructure projects.

Nelson stated, “I am happy to work with Sen. Kim Ward to fund these important projects and help our local communities. We are helping to upgrade roofs, emergency shelters, sidewalks and sewage inspection capability. These important foundational projects will benefit our communities for generations to come.”

A significant portion of the funding includes a nearly $750,000 grant awarded to Greensburg on behalf of the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department No. 2 for a roof replacement and solar project aimed at improving energy efficiency. Southwest Greensburg received roughly $150,000 for upgrades to its fire department and emergency operations center. Hempfield Township was granted nearly $120,000 for purchasing a mobile camera system for stormwater sewer inspections.

These Local Share Account grants support economic development and community improvement through gaming funds collected under Act 71 of 2004.

Additionally, grants from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program were announced. The Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center was awarded nearly $2.5 million for energy efficiency improvements expected to save taxpayers 30% annually in energy costs. Hempfield Area School District will receive $1 million for roof replacement and HVAC and plumbing work at Stanwood Elementary School.

Further grants include:

- Adamsburg Borough: $143,454 for intersection upgrades and road paving.

- New Stanton Borough: $434,365 for a new pavilion and playground equipment.

- Southwest Greensburg Borough: $97,231 for a public works vehicle and landscaping equipment.

- Westmoreland County: $815,200 for safety upgrades at the courthouse and district court equipment.

- Youngwood Borough: $317,554 for security cameras installation and fencing replacement.

- Greensburg Salem School District: $377,812 for roof replacement at Greensburg Salem High School.
