Rep. Jill Cooper has announced the allocation of over $461,500 in state funding for community improvement projects within Pennsylvania's 55th Legislative District. The funds are sourced from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Local Share Account grant program.
"Our municipalities go above and beyond in identifying areas of improvement and being proactive to addressing needs," said Cooper. "This funding addresses matters of public safety, road and park maintenance, sewer repairs and a library upgrade, all benefitting local communities."
The grant allocations include several projects:
- Delmont Borough will receive $200,000 for a sanitary sewer replacement project along Tollgate Lane. This project is in cooperation with Sen. Kim Ward.
- Washington Township Police Department will be granted $81,644 to purchase body and car camera systems. This initiative is supported by Sen. Joe Pittman.
- Salem Township is allocated $64,780 to construct a maintenance building at Seanor Farm Park, also in collaboration with Ward.
- New Alexandria Borough will use $48,216 to acquire a new utility tractor for its maintenance department with support from Pittman.
- Oklahoma Borough receives $25,750 to replace street signs and install electronic speed monitoring signs, working alongside Pittman.
- Economic Growth Connection of Westmoreland will receive $21,275 on behalf of Murrysville Community Library for setting up modular study rooms as part of an upgrade effort with Ward's cooperation.
- New Kensington City is awarded $20,000 for a digital road sign installation at State Route 366 and Leechburg Road intersection through efforts with Pittman.
These grants were approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), an independent agency responsible for managing funding programs aimed at fostering economic growth in Pennsylvania. The Local Share Account grants are funded through gaming revenues.
