Fire and emergency agencies in Pennsylvania's 59th Legislative District have received nearly $320,000 in state grants, according to Representative Leslie Rossi of Westmoreland. This funding is sourced from slot machine gaming proceeds and aims to support local first responders.

This grant program, initiated by the Legislature and managed by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) alongside the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC), does not rely on General Fund tax revenue. Rossi emphasized the value of these grants, stating that "an investment in our first responders is an investment that benefits everyone."

The grants are distributed across several local organizations, including Bolivar Volunteer Fire Company with $14,229 and Latrobe Good Will Hose Company No. 1 receiving $4,226. Each recipient must meet specific requirements and file a grant agreement by July 1 to access the funds.

Eligible projects for the grants encompass construction or renovation of emergency service facilities, equipment purchase or repair, training, or debt reduction. All qualifying companies that apply receive funding based on the criteria established by OSFC.
