Rep. Leslie Rossi of Westmoreland County announced that the Mountain Watershed Association (MWA) has secured $72,000 in funding through the Commonwealth's Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program (GTRP).

According to Rossi, “MWA’s dedication to preserving and improving our local environment makes them an invaluable partner in our efforts to create better recreational spaces in Westmoreland County.” Rossi added that the work on the Indian Creek Valley Trail would enhance safety, accessibility, and protect natural areas for future use.

The MWA plans to use this grant to address safety issues and improve access on the Indian Creek Valley Trail. This includes restoration of the severely storm-damaged Indian Creek Gorge section from 2021 and the resurfacing of the historic Jones Mills section. These developments are set to improve safety and accessibility while ensuring environmental protection for nearby areas, like MWA's Rasler Run property.

The GTRP is funded through the Marcellus Legacy Fund under Act 13 of 2012. It aids in the planning, development, and enhancement of public parks, trails, greenways, and recreational spaces across Pennsylvania.
