In Harrisburg, Representative Leslie Rossi has announced the allocation of over $950,000 for various community improvement projects in the 59th Legislative District. Rossi played a significant role in securing the necessary funding.
"These grants will go a long way in many areas to help promote improvements in security, water systems, infrastructure and safety," Rossi stated. She highlighted the need for investment in communities within the district, noting it could attract business growth and create jobs. "It was my pleasure to advocate for this funding," she added.
The funding includes Local Share Account (LSA) grants, aimed at supporting economic development, job training, community improvement, and public interest projects using gaming funds under Act 71 of 2004. These grants total $303,430 and are distributed among several municipalities.
Derry Township will receive $60,000 for various infrastructure improvements to Panizzi Road. Latrobe City has been allocated $131,000 for upgrades to the municipal building, a project assisted by Sen. Kim Ward. Additionally, Latrobe City's police department will receive $12,000 for the installation of three camera car systems to enhance officer and citizen safety. Fairfield Township is set to use $34,211 to renovate its municipal building, with contributions from Sen. Joe Pittman aiding the project.
In addition to the LSA grants, Rossi announced a $650,000 Multimodal Transportation Fund Program grant allocated for the construction of internal roads within the Derry Business Park development. Furthermore, Unity Township will receive $66,219 to purchase a skid steer loader, with Sen. Kim Ward contributing to this project as well.
"This is very important funding because not only does this project benefit the people of Unity Township, but it also benefits all of Westmoreland County," Rossi remarked. She emphasized the role of this equipment in enhancing recycling operations and property site maintenance in the county.
The grants were reviewed and approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency responsible for overseeing financial programs and investments that contribute to Pennsylvania's economic growth.
