Rep. Leslie Rossi announced the allocation of nearly $313,672 in grant funding to 24 fire and ambulance companies in the 59th District. The funding stems from a grant program run by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner, aimed at supporting emergency responders.
“These tireless and dedicated volunteers answer the call whenever an emergency strikes in our communities, and we are grateful for their service,” said Rossi. She emphasized the importance of the program in assisting emergency responders with offsetting costs, especially as fundraising and recruitment present challenges.
Initiated by the Pennsylvania General Assembly in 2000, this grant program is funded through slot machine gaming rather than tax revenue. The grants can be used for various projects, including recruitment and retention, facility construction or renovation, equipment acquisition or repair, training, and debt reduction.
Companies benefiting from this initiative include Bolivar Volunteer Fire Company, receiving $13,580, Chestnut Ridge Community Volunteer Fire Department with $15,000, and Youngstown-Whitney Volunteer Fire Department, awarded $28,273. A complete list of recipient organizations and grants is outlined in the announcement.
Organizations wishing to receive grants must apply and enter into a grant agreement. The 59th Legislative District encompasses several Westmoreland County communities.
