Rep. Jill Cooper and Senate President Pro Tem Kim Ward have announced that the Murrysville Community Library will receive a grant to enhance its programs for residents of Murrysville, Washington Township, and Export Borough.

“The Murrysville Community Library has been a cornerstone to these communities since its establishment,” stated Cooper. She highlighted the library's commitment to promoting literacy, lifelong learning, and community engagement through various resources and services.

The nearly $400,000 grant is part of the Pennsylvania Broadband Development Authority’s Multi-Purpose Community Facilities Program. This funding originates from the Coronavirus Capital Projects Fund under the federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021. It supports projects that improve facilities open to the public, enabling work, education, and health monitoring.

Ward emphasized the importance of libraries in local communities: “This $400,000 grant to the Murrysville Community Library will not only help deliver on its mission to inspire ideas, enrich lives, and create opportunities for learning but also encourage literacy and enjoyment.”

The project aims to expand broadband services at the library, develop workforce initiatives unavailable in the region previously, create a supportive area for teens, and increase accessibility for individuals with disabilities by offering space for educational activities like tutoring.

Cooper shared her personal connection with libraries: “My love for libraries began early in life when... my family and I would visit the bookmobile. This fueled my love for reading...” She added that public libraries are vital to communities and expressed that this grant will enhance visitors' experiences at Murrysville Community Library.
