A project to improve the downtown area of Export Borough is set to receive nearly $500,000 from the Commonwealth Finance Authority. The announcement was made by Rep. Jill Cooper (R-Westmoreland), Sen. Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland), and Export Mayor Joe Zaccagnini.

The grant, amounting to $485,391, is allocated for the Heritage Square Project. This initiative aims to unify Export's business district into a central community space. Plans include establishing paved and marked drive aisles for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. Additionally, a gravel parking area will be replaced with a paved one featuring 72 parking stalls for the business district, bus stop commuters, and Westmoreland Heritage Trail patrons.

Rep. Jill Cooper stated that "this type of investment will pay dividends into the future in terms of economic growth for every business owner and resident in Export." She added that the project would solidify Export as a destination point.

Senator Kim Ward remarked that "community and economic development go hand-in-hand," highlighting that this funding would strengthen the local economy through job creation and business growth while improving residents' quality of life.

Mayor Joe Zaccagnini expressed gratitude towards the council's efforts: "Export has been blessed with a great council that has really worked hard for this." He noted that local fundraising had initiated this overall project.

Local Share Account grants support various projects through gaming funds from Act 71 of 2004. Other municipalities within the 55th Legislative District also received grants for different purposes such as roadway improvements, equipment purchases, and facility upgrades.
