BURRELL SCHOOL DISTRICT: Communication from Dr. Wagner, Superintendent

Ballpen

Burrell School District issued the following announcement.

We are 10 weeks into our school year.  With mitigation measures in place, we have managed to remain open for face to face instruction for our families who choose to send their children to school.  I have communicated 2 positive cases at Burrell High School and 1 positive case at Stewart Elementary School over the last few days.  Yesterday, we received information regarding an additional case at Burrell High School.  Last night, the school board discussed our success to this point, the four positive cases in the last week, the concerns of social gatherings over the holidays and the community spread level in our local area.  As a result, we believe it is in the best interest of our community to switch to an all virtual instructional model following the Thanksgiving and winter holiday recess.  This is not a school closure.  It is an instructional model change only.  Our students will continue to work in their clubs, activities and athletics as long as feasible.

All students will participate in virtual learning from December 1 to December 14 following the Thanksgiving recess.  Face to face instruction will resume on December 15 and continue to the winter holiday break.  After the winter holiday, all students will participate in virtual learning from January 4 to January 15.  Face to face instruction will resume on Tuesday, January 19.  (School is not in session on Monday, January 18, 2021).

Over the next five days, building administrators and teachers will provide information for families regarding schedules, etc.  Please note that virtual learning will be synchronous learning in real time.  Students will log in to their class sessions/periods each day to be counted as present.  Families who may have circumstances that require an exception need to communicate with the building administrator and their child’s teachers to develop an acceptable solution.

If your family does not have internet access, please contact Michael Discello at michael.discello@burrell.k12.pa.us

I thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate the year together.  Find some much needed time with your loved ones to relax and rest.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving,

Dr. Wagner

Superintendent
