Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tempore Kim Ward commented on the current situation regarding mass transit in southeast Pennsylvania. In a statement released today, she addressed the recent actions of Governor Josh Shapiro concerning the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA).

Ward criticized Governor Shapiro's approach to handling what she described as a "mass transit crisis." She attributed this issue to decisions made by Shapiro and House Democrats, stating that they have prioritized education over mass transit. According to Ward, this has resulted in the approval of a significant budget increase for traditional education systems.

"Today’s announcement by Gov. Josh Shapiro to address the mass transit crisis facing SEPTA is a crisis of his own making," Ward stated. "It’s yet another example of how simply ‘showing up’ falls short in addressing complex issues."

Ward further elaborated on her perspective, emphasizing that Pennsylvanians, particularly those residing in the southeastern part of the state, are adversely affected not due to political division but because of what she perceives as misplaced priorities by Pennsylvania Democrats.

"The bottom line is this: Pennsylvanians – especially those in the southeast – are losing out, not because of divided government, but because Pennsylvania Democrats have chosen to focus their priorities and spending on one area alone," she said.

Erica Clayton Wright from Senator Ward's office can be contacted for more information.
