Kiski Area School District issued the following announcement.
Dear Kiski Area Parents and Guardians:
As communicated by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), “Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China.”
Health officials in the United States are currently taking steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in this country and our communities. To assist with this effort we are providing additional resources to students and staff in our schools and on the district’s website that communicates the most current information for mitigating the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the CDC, there is no specific antiviral treatment for COVID-19. They recommend simple daily precautions that everyone should always take to help prevent the spread of illnesses, including:
- Avoid close contact with people who are ill.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
- Cover your cough/sneeze with a tissue or the crook of your arm, and then promptly wash your hands or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
- Get plenty of rest/sleep.
- Get the seasonal flu vaccine. Though not protective against COVID-19, the seasonal vaccine may prevent the flu, which is known to cause possible severe respiratory illness.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
The health and safety of students and staff in Kiski Area School District is our primary concern. If you should have a specific school-related health question involving your child, please contact the nurse in your child’s school. Questions of a general nature should be directed to your personal physician or the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
